You spell "Malacca"...

I spell "Melaka"!

 Though the spelling may be up for debate, visiting is not!  My friend and I braved the
2 hour drive and at the end of the day, we were glad we did!

Just a 2 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Melaka, Malaysia is the 3rd smallest Malaysian State after Perlis and Penang;
both on my "to visit" list.

Before the arrival of the first Sultan, Melaka was a fishing village inhabited by local Malays.  Melaka was founded by Parameswara (the last Raja of Singapura/Singapore).  According to popular legend, Parameswara was resting under a tree near a river during a hunt, when one of his dogs cornered a mouse deer.  In self-defense, the mouse deer pushed the dog into the river.  Impressed by the courage of the deer, and taking it as a propitious omen of the weak overcoming the powerful, Parameswara decided then and there to found an empire on that very spot.  He named it "Melaka" after the tree where he had just taken shelter.

My friend and I were told that you can find great deals on furniture in Melaka.  Though we did not find the "great deals", we had fun looking at all the intricate carvings and ornate designs.

Then, we stumbled on to "Jonker Walk". This is where the fun began!

We enjoyed lunch at The Geographer Cafe

Then, it was off to walk the streets...
(in a non-prostitute sense, of course -"Knotting Hill" reference Ha! Ha!)

A walk wouldn't be a walk without a few statues...

Melaka is known for "Trishaws".  We didn't get to ride this trip, but we will come back and take a spin.  Everyone looked like they were having a blast!

Malaysia is always humid, so I purchased a fan on my walk-about, it came in handy in Melaka.

My daughters and I always joke about the "Hello Kitty" influence in Asia, she is EVERYWHERE.

"Selfie" with newly purchased fan and of course Hello Kitty!

Thanks for enjoying Malacca/Melaka with me!
